Celebrating International Migrants Day (18 Dec)

This year Migrants Rights Network is working hand in hand with over 50 groups across the UK to celebrate International Migrants Day 2013!

In the last 12 months we have seen the immigration debate become more toxic than ever. Major European and national elections are coming up in 2014 and 2015. As a result we have seen politicians talking tough on immigration, making our communities feel increasingly under attack. We have even seen vans driving around telling migrants to ‘go home’.

International Migrants Day is a chance to show that this is not the society we want to be. Immigration is a key part of the society we live in. Many of us are migrants, and all of us benefit from the contribution that migrants bring to the UK. Divisive politics doesn’t lead to anything but fear and hostility.

We believe in hope for the future - a future that has migrants at its heart. Let’s stand up on International Migrants Day and tell a different story, together.
